Setup and tweaks for SHOUTcast with SAM Broadcaster

This guide will explain how to setup various versions of SAM broadcaster's encoders and relays to work with our shoutcast v2 servers.

Please Note: some of the images show different versions of SAM side by side to highlight the difference between versions.  Follow along according to your version of SAM.

ADD ENCODERS:

We are showing how to add MP3 since it is most commonly used format.  However, OGG or AAC will also work with our shoutcast servers.

It is also important to note if your station will be switching between multiple sources (i.e. a station with multiple DJs) that all sources (DJs) have the exact same setup.  Otherwise your listeners will experience buffering issues and need to reload players between source (DJ) changes.

In SAM Broadcaster, click the + symbol in the encoders window to add a new encoder.

- Select Plugin: MP3 (LAME) or (Normal)

Please Note: MP3 (LAME) is the same as MP3 (Normal) across different versions of SAM

- Click OK

Converter Tab

- Set a CD quality setting of 128 kbps at 44.1khz stereo (however you may choose any bitrate).

- For Auto DJ setup ONLY: turn on Auto Start at 5 seconds + auto reconnect at around 10 seconds
- For regular DJs: Auto Start OFF (unticked)
- For regular DJs: Auto reconnect at 1 second (this setting pertains only when encoders have been manually started)

Please Note before proceeding:

It is important to denote the difference bewteen our shoutcast servers and the DSP clients used by SAM and how it pertains to setting up all of your sources (DJs).

- Our shoutcast servers are all V2 servers.
- Newer versions of SAM offer the option to use V1 or V2 DSP clients.
- Older versions of SAM have a V1 DSP client but will still work with our V2 server.
- Our shoutcast V2 servers are backwards compatible and will work with older SAM Broadcaster that use V1 DSP client.
- Our shoutcast V2 servers will work with newer SAM broadcasters in either V1 or V2 DSP client mode.

If one source (DJ or Auto) has an older SAM with V1 DSP client then all sources (DJs) must use V1 DSP client settings even if using a newer SAM which offers V2 DSP client.  This is because all sources must match settings exactly or your listeners will experience issues after source changes.  If you are unsure then use V1 in SAM Broadcaster's encoder setup.

If ALL sources (DJs) have newer SAM Broadcaster then you can select V2 in the shoutcast DSP client settings.  This also means that any future sources (i.e. new DJs) must have a newer SAM Broadcaster.  Again, if you are unsure then use the settings in the image above.  Otherwise for V2 DSP clients see image below.

- Server Type: ShoutCast
- Shoutcast Client: V2

- Server Port: info provided in account created email
- Password: info provided in account created email
- SID: 1 (this will almost always be 1 unless specified in account created email)
- Station name: your station's name or leave default
- Website URL:  your station's URL or leave default

Please Note:
- SID is only needed for newer SAM Broadcaster versions and will almost always be 1
- on older versions of SAM where you cannot select SID in relays you must add /stats?sid=1 on the end of the port.

See account created email for further info.
